Jesse Donald Knotts

I just read that Don Knotts has passed on. Like most of you, I will always remember him in the role of Deputy Barney Fife and as Mr Furley. Recently, my girls came to know him from "The Incredbile Mr. Limpett" and "The Apple Dumpling Gang." The last film that we "heard" him in was the forgettable "Chicken Little" voicing the role of the Mayor.

The report in the LA Times stated that Knotts died of lung cancer. I was touched that "life-long" friend Andy Griffith was one of the last visitors that he saw.

I, too, found it tear-jerking. Andy was on the Today show Monday morning talking about Don Knotts. He was chocking back the tears. It made me very sad for him.

Sorry, I do know how to spell. By the way, thank you for the things you said about Todd. He really is wonderful.

I cannot think of another television performer, except perhaps Lucy Ball, who created such an enduring, endearing character as Knotts did with Barney Fife.

And then to avoid typecast by creating Mr. Furley...a brilliant actor and showman. There will never be another like him.
